The Best Golf Courses in Mexico

As a traveler and golfer, I enjoy exploring golf courses all around the world as well as in my backyard. Mexico boasts a few unique courses that are challenging and unique, but also capture the area’s natural beauty. Below are three golf courses that I think are the best in Mexico.

Riviera Cancun Golf Club

AsafZanzuriGolfRivieraCancun

Riviera Cancun Golf Club was designed and built by retired American professional golfer Jack Nicklaus and his international golf course design firm in 2008. The 18-hole, par-72 course is filled with ocean views, lush landscaping, and heavily contoured greens. And it will come as a surprise to you when I say that the golf course does not feature any homes or other distractions that have become commonplace on golf courses today!

When you pay for a round of golf at Riviera Cancun Golf Club, you will get the chance to indulge in an all-inclusive lunch before or after you tee off. Not only that, but the dining area is nestled among the beautiful scenery of the 18th hole. After an all-inclusive lunch and a day of golfing, feel free to explore the restaurants and hotels that populate the area. The golf course is located in the Hotel Zone, so there is plenty of nightlife to explore afterwards!

Mayakoba, Riviera Maya

AsafZanzuriGolfMayakoba

The Mayakoba golf course made history when it became home to the first PGA TOUR event, the OHL Classic, held outside of the United States or Canada. The OHL Classic has been held annually at Mayakoba since 2007. The tournament is considered one of the finest among professionals, and as such, the tournament is held at one of the finest golf clubs in Mexico.

As you’re making your way through the Greg Norman-designed course, you’ll get to marvel at its ecologically diverse beauty and while pondering about the professional golfers who have walked the greens before you. The par-71 luxury golf course spans 7,039-yards that highlights three diverse landscapes of the area: tropical jungle, dense mangroves, and oceanfront stretches of sand. Although the course may be difficult for the average Joe to play, Norman designed the course with all levels of player in mind. Each hole on the course is fitted with five different tee blocks, so players of all skill levels will have the chance to play this internationally acclaimed course.

Pacifico at Punta Mita Golf Club

AsafZanzuriGolfPuntaMitaPacifico

Also designed by Jack Nicklaus and his design firm, the Pacifico Golf Course offers views of white-sand beaches along the Pacific Ocean and the Sierra Madre Mountains. The 7,104-yard, par-72 course features eight ocean-side holes, but that’s not what the course is most famous for.

The “Tail of the Whale” hole, a “19th par-3 hole” is notorious for being the only golf course in the world with a natural island green. Not only that, but the hole was engineered to be extra challenging by having an oceanside tee on the beach and shaping the green to reflect the shape of a whale’s tale. Speaking of whales, the course also offers golfers the chance to watch whales during their seasonal migration!

Have you played any of these holes? Let me know in the comments!

AsafCarMuseumsAroundtheWorld

Car Museums Around the World

As a lover of cars, I’m always keeping up with what’s new in the industry by frequently attending car shows all around the world. Although seeing the latest and greatest models can be amazing, sometimes reminiscing on cars’ history can be amazing as well. That’s why it’s a good idea to visit a car museum to unearth the rich history of cars. Below are three car museums around the world you can visit.

Mercedes-Benz Museum, Stuttgart, Germany

This 177,600-square-foot museum boasts over 1,500 exhibits and spans an astonishing nine levels! And there’s a reason why — the Mercedes-Benz Museum is the only car museum in the entire world that has a full comprehensive outline of its more 125 years of auto history. With so much rich history, there is not only one tour, but two tours that each examine the car models made and the history of the company!

The two-hour tours start at the very top of the museum, where visitors are transported back to 1886, where Gottlieb Daimler and Carl Benz developed the first automobiles based from the horse carriage concept. Throughout the tour, you’ll spiral your way down through history — viewing 160 cars in the process. Since there are two tours going on simultaneously, visitors are free to switch between the tours as often as they’d like.

Porsche Museum, Stuttgart, Germany

Once you’ve finished your tour at the Mercedes-Benz Museum, feel free to take a short ride over to the Porsche Museum. This futuristic-looking, $100 million building has about 80 cars on display that showcases the historical and technical achievements of the company. However, the museum’s most recent technological addition features an interactive 12-metre “Porsche Touchwall,” which invites visitors to research the company’s history by browsing through over 3,000 images. What’s even more amazing is that new content is imported daily, so there’s always something new to learn if you’re a frequent visitor!

Not only is the interactive touchwall frequently updated, but the museum presents special exhibitions that are changed on a regular basis as well. In fact starting this summer, “New tracks. Every Destination. Always Porsche.” will be on display from July 25, 2017 to February 25, 2018. According to the Porsche Museum website, “The special exhibition shows the development of the sporty SUV Cayenne across multiple storylines. With a wide range of interactive stations it focuses on off-road driving, fun and suitability for families.”

The Lamborghini Museum, Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy

What better way to experience a car museum than looking at luxurious sports cars all day at the Lamborghini Museum? The museum features cars chosen from Ferruccio Lamborghini’s personal collection: the only 20 Reventón models ever built, the Italian Polizia Stradale, which is one of the world’s fastest police cars; and the Aventador, which made an appearance in “The Dark Knight Rises.” The museum has only been open for about a year, so it’s definitely worth taking a trip!

AsafZanzuriNightlifeBajaCalifornia

Nightlife on the Baja California Strip

The Mexican state of Baja California is known to be a party destination by travelers, especially those from the United States. The cities of Tijuana, Rosarito, and Ensenada are all popular for their shopping, dining, and nightlife. As someone who enjoys nightlife all over the world, I’m providing you with a small peek into the nightlife the Baja California strip has to offer partygoers and food lovers alike.

Avenida Revolucioń, Tijuana

The main street in Tijuana has many shops, street vendors and restaurants for tourists to wander through during the daytime. After a day of shopping, its gastropubs and breweries provide a nice setting to grab a bite to eat before the sun goes down. Once it’s dark in Tijuana, the bars and clubs turn Avenida Revolucioń into one big party. Among the streets and bars, you’ll find interesting musical blends of live bands and club music. Partygoers can also walk from bar to bar, while sipping on anything from a cold, craft beer to champagne.

Papas & Beer, two locations in Rosarito and Ensenada

This beachfront nightclub is known for its amazing drinks, live performances, mouthwatering food, and endless partying. With more than 43,000 square feet of beachfront, partygoers can dance the night away with soft sand between their toes, take a dip in the Pacific Ocean or play a round or two of beach volleyball. For those who prefer the land instead of the sea, you can enjoy a drink in one of the seven fully stocked bars on decks overlooking the beach, go for a quick dive in the swimming pool, or take a ride on the mechanical bull.

Because Papas & Beer is an all-night affair, they have partnered with hotels just a few blocks away from the club to offer partygoers the opportunity to plan the weekend of a lifetime with ease. The Rosarito Beach Hotel, Festival Plaza, and Rosarito Inn Oceana all offer their guests fantastic amenities like massages, child care, and free wi-fi.

Skybar at Planta Baja, Ensenada

The Skybar at Planta Baja refers to themselves as “a restaurant without labels,” so they are willing to explore different styles of cuisine. It’s reflected in their menu, where a plethora of meal options can please any diner. According to a review on their Facebook page, the restaurant and bar has “great natural flavors that are cooked to order and a huge choice with over 80 options. There’s something for all.”

With a great view to watch the sunset in the outdoor dining area and a huge selection of wines and craft beers, this place is highly recommended by all who visit. The Facebook reviews don’t lie — it’s rated with 4.7 out of 5 stars!

AsafZanzuriImproveGolfSwing

How to Improve Your Golf Swing

Is your golf score too high for your liking? If you think hitting more balls on the range will give you the practice you need to lower your score, you might want to think twice and evaluate your golf swing instead. The golf swing is the single most important factor when improving your game, so instead of hitting more balls, you should take time to reevaluate and study your swing. Here are a few ideas that you can practice both at home and on the course.

Record Yourself to Learn from Your Mistakes

We all have weak spots that we’re not aware we have — that is until either someone tells us or we can see it for ourselves. To learn from your mistakes, you can record video of your golf swing via a tripod or a friend who’s on the course with you. You can use this as an opportunity for some practice, then watch the video later on with a notepad and pen in hand. As you’re watching and replaying your golf swing, take note of your stance, balance, grip and other techniques that assist with making the perfect golf swing.

Or Hire a Golf Teacher

Instead of recording yourself, you can also hire a golf teacher to show you the ropes. This hands-on approach can be better for visual players who learn best with a coach by their side to physically point out flaws and readjust form.

Double Check that Your Golf Clubs are Properly Sized

Since every golfer is different, it’s only appropriate that every golfer has properly sized clubs based on their height. Your golf clubs should be the same length as the distance from the ground to the tips of your fingers when your arms are relaxed at your sides. If this is not the case for you, unfortunately you might have to purchase a new set of clubs that align more with your height. However, this will pay off in the long run by improving your overall game.

Practice Your Balance

If your feet move and become unbalanced during your swing, your hands and body will try to realign that balance — which can heavily affect the outcome of your swing since it relies on your hands being properly placed. You will want to practice your balance. Try swinging your club while standing on the foam log. Although this sounds like it’s a difficult feat to accomplish, once you have mastered balancing on the log, keeping your feet balanced on solid ground will be a whole lot easier.

Watch Your Hand Placement

You don’t want to keep your hands too high on the club, or else you won’t have as much control, and therefore the ball might not go in the direction you need it to go. When you keep your hands low, you will have more control and you can actually lower the flight of the ball — which is great for certain shots that need a lower trajectory.

Welcome
